PAYE questions, answered

How is PAYE calculated in Namibia?

PAYE is calculated on annual taxable income using progressive brackets. Income up to N$100,000 per year is tax-free; income above that is taxed at rates from 18% to 37% depending on the bracket. Employers deduct one-twelfth of the annual tax from each monthly salary.

What is the tax-free threshold in Namibia?

N$100,000 per year (about N$8,333 per month), effective since 1 March 2024. If you earn less than this annually, no PAYE is deducted.

How much is Social Security in Namibia?

Both employee and employer contribute 0.9% of the basic monthly salary to the Social Security Commission (MSD fund), with a minimum of N$2.70 and a maximum of N$99.00 per month each (based on the N$11,000 monthly wage ceiling effective March 2025).

Is this calculator accurate for payroll?

It uses the official tax tables and gives a reliable estimate for a standard salary. Actual payroll may differ if you have allowances, benefits, pension deductions or other taxable income. For statutory filing, confirm with NamRA or your tax practitioner.
